Lucifugum
exists from 1995 and has released many CDs since then. Your choice
was not to give many info of the band, so little is know from your
beginning. Can you tell us how it all begun? "Today
everybody talks that once he was inspired by so called Black Metal
gods (perhaps, you know the list of these "gods" yourself).
And this everyone the next time will confirm that he is an usual human,
simply a "fan" of other humans. In the end of "80th"
I had Venom double vinyl (I don't remember its title), and I have
got rid of it, at all not having heard, that satisfies me till now.
So "gods" have floated past, and I have missed this "divine"
splash. Actually, LUCIFUGUM was not inspired musically, and I didn't
perceive the band as exclusively musical formation. Spiritual terror
and certain Black propaganda - this is the depth of each step. We
didn't fight for souls. What advantage of sticky human weakness? We
have been inspired by touch to Black, and it was not an age of youthful
maximalism. The beginning was dangerous for ourselves because we,
as practising a certain kind of thinking and behaviour, represented
the danger to others."
All
these years there were many line-up changes and cooperations. Who
is now behind Lucifugum as full band members?
"There
were not the line-up changes, but simply change of session musicians.
Now and in the further LUCIFUGUM is: Khlyst and Stabaath."
Since
only Khlyst has remained from the original line-up, do you think the
"idea" of Lucifugum has changed?
"Nothing
could change since namely I was the leprosy that infected the organism
of band with hatred to any form of good nature. LUCIFUGUM was and
remains a formation which practises the hegemony of spiritual Black
heresy."
In
your 11 albums, there are many changes in your musical style. There
are more melodic, keyboard-based cds, more slow ones and more raw
ones. Now looking back at them do you think that all of these are
100% Lucifugum, or the many line-up changes had their effects on your
sound.
"Absolutely
in each of the offered percents. During the creation of album we are
possessed by idea of emotional fall on the bottom of height of own
soul. So-called musical style is not so important in case when you
Create: blindly and extremely. Besides I shall repeat: Black Metal
as simply music was almost not interesting to me and I listened very
few (and listen now) of other's creations. With LUCIFUGUM we did what
we wanted to do, not looking into the charts. Turned out that turned
out. The same "On hooks to pieces!" could be absolutely
other album if I were more patient to unserious attitude of session
musicians. For example, till this moment nobody knew, that drum-machine
which was recorded on this album is just the parties intended for
rehearsals. We used those parties because I have decided to refuse
from "live" drums already during rehearsals. The opportunity
to Create was and remains a priority desire. Having it, I don't have
the possibility to agree with myself as with human. The suffocating
Light of Black is somewhere inside, and namely music is the rest of
the spoiled blood. But each drop is clear in its vicious revelation."
In
my opinion the term "True Antihuman Poisonous Black Metal"
describes perfectly the latest releases, while I can't say the same
for some older works like "Intinct Prevelance", "on
the Sortilage of Christianity" or "on Hooks to Pieces!".
Is this sound of your latest works that we must expect from the band
in the future, or you could surprise us again experimenting?
"Such
definition is perfect for mentioned albums. Or, may be, someone will
state that Wolves are the friends of human and his helpers in search
of the lost sheep? There is no necessity to retell any lyrics of that
period, absolutely definitely that each album is a poisoned nail in
throat of human morals. You can breathe, but only in half of force.
There were not experiments earlier, nothing such will happen in the
further. We are here not to surprise the "public". Religion
of internal despotism and respectful treatment of a sound as ritual
weapon - such will be that harsh and emotional Black Metal which we
are going to cultivate in the further. Me and Stabaath have practically
identical Understanding of the Black essence, therefore "music"
shows a monolith of obscurantism."
Your
last Cd is "The Supreme Art of Genocide". I found it one
of the best and most solid albums you've ever released. Tell us a
few words about it.
"To
reel up a web of memoirs on a cocoon from which the monster has already
come out? For LUCIFUGUM Stabaath has left her prestigious job. By
that way, "The Supreme Art of Genocide ", as well as "Vector33",
was created almost in full isolation from external world, only process
of record of the albums has entailed some live communication. This
circumstance is the beginning of that what we have in result."
You
have started the label "Propaganda" on your own. What drove
you on this decision, what what are the future plans of this label?
"To
act and to provoke (at least indirectly) the others to act - that's
the main intention. PROPAGANDA is not a helper of scene, any action,
first of all, is caused by our understanding of this or that phenomenon.
We don't "run a label", and we don't work on own reputation.
If we decide to edit release, we firmly understand that, first of
all, this is the interest of the band or artist. Together with this,
we're opened when we say that the Force of influence of each Creation
is interesting to us, but not the carrier of infection (the person
that has created it). In the near future we plan to edit cd of one
of the oldest Russian Ālack Metal formations - FORGOT. "Burning
Down" is one of the most emotional Creations that have been left
in Melancholic Black Metal. This is really original project, and this
is not the clone of the next Burzum."
Since
the start of Lucifugum, many things have changed in the ukrainian
black metal scene. Now there are countless bands from Ukraine. What's
your opinion about nowday's black metal in your country?
"LUTOMYSL
and GROMM are the formations which act in destructive manner. The
rest at the mention can cause steady scepticism and poisonous irony.
It is obviously that they themselves understand a state of affairs,
that's why we are relieved of necessity to know about their existence
and appearance of others."
For
me Ukraine and Russia have a very distinctive black metal scene and
they are my favourites. Are there any other bands you'd recommend
from there?
"Perhaps,
something such exists, but it is indifferently to us. Majority is
far from a contact with Force since they are overflown by human interests
and can be identified only as members of the next club of communication."
What
are your present and future plans? Do you think you have attended
your goals you had when you begun Lucifugum, or there are things you
haven't manage to express yet through your music? What's the next
"target" of Lucifugum?
"We
don't pursue the certain purposes, such as "to conquer christianity",
"to kill all" or "to share wisdom". Blackness
which we breathe is not the citations of "great" or any
other stereotype air of inspiration. We still shall be here when many
become "adults" by the passport and by "brains".
We shall be here, among a heap of worms which recollect themselves
as Black Metal only approaching the monitor. We are here because our
single target is we ourselves, with impossibility to live differently."
Any
chance to see you live in Hellas?
"LUCIFUGUM
is not a concert band already 6 years, and definitely that we'll never
come back to this condition."
